Malaysia – A Truly Sporting Destination with Diversity

A true testament to Malaysia’s competency as an international sporting hub was when the country was chosen to host the 15th Laureus World Sports Awards in 2014.  In addition, there are yearly international events namely the PETRONAS Formula One motor race, the PGA sanctioned golf events CIMB Classic Golf and the Maybank Malaysian Open which had seen the likes of top golfers like Tiger Wood and Rory McIlroy, to the delights of local and international spectators.

Malaysia offers many venue options for a wide variety of sporting events. The countrys natural landscape, terrain and climate in Langkawi Island and East Malaysia provide an ideal environment for outdoor events. The Ironman, Extreme Sports, Red Bull Air Race World Championships, Le Tour De Langkawi, Langkawi International Regatta, Sabah Adventure Challenge are among the international sports events held around Malaysia.

Malaysia is well on its way to being a world-renowned sporting destination, and it is not showing any signs of slowing down. With strong support from the government, excellent infrastructure and Malaysias reputation as a value-for-money destination, it is certainly poised for more growth.
Malaysia Major Events is a division of Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau and is under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture. It focuses on identifying and supporting bids for international events on sports, arts and culture and lifestyle.
